Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the All progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State is currently locked in the web of a fresh leadership crisis following the party leaders’ alleged loggerheads.
The party in the state has however been accusing its former National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, of concluding plans to nominate leaders for the party in Delta State, a situation that had been described as plotting the fall of the party into another round of crisis, especially when it was clear that the party was just coming out of one crisis.
In a statement signed by its publicity Secretary, Barr Sylvester Imonina, a copy made available to our correspondent said that “It should be noted that it was this same way Oyegun who as national Chairman created the numerous crises that have bedeviled the party, which resulted in tremendous losses during different elections in the state.
“It is therefore quite disheartening that the said Oyegun is now at the forefront of plunging the party in the state into another round at a time when the party is just coming out of such parochial battle. It is clear that this present action of the former National Chairman will spell doom for the party and we wonder what he stands to gain from his Machiavellian tactics of tearing the party apart in Delta State.
According to the statement, “The point must be emphasized that the Constitution of our great party is very clear on who is in charge of the affairs of the party in the state and that is the state Chairman, in the person of Prophet Jones Ode Erue.
“As a former National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun should be aware that there is no constitutional provision which gives him the powers to nominate and/ or appoint leaders of the party, perhaps, Chief John Odigie Oyegun is still clinging to and maybe suffering from the vestiges of lost power as a former National Chairman”.
The statement explained “The party in the state wants to sound loud and clear that Chief John Odigie Oyegun should leave Delta State alone and resolve the challenges that is facing his home state of Edo where he has become a persona non grata due to his penchant for creating needless problems and as the proverbial saying goes, he should remove the log in his eyes before looking at the speck in another person’s eyes.
While calling on him to leave Delta State APC alone, the statement therefore called on the national leadership of the party to call Chief John Odigie Oyegun to order to desist from his present act of shenanigans as the party the marches towards the 2023 general elections in Delta State.
