The Katsina State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Wednesday said it arrested 800 motorists in 2014 for overloading and route violation.

Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina.

He said the figure included the 133 motorists arrested for carrying passengers in the booth and another 500 caught engaging in route violation.

Ibrahim said the command would continue to arrest and prosecute any commercial driver caught carrying passengers in a vehicle’s booth.

” This action of conveying a passenger in the booth is totally unacceptable to the command and anybody caught committing the act will face the full wrath of the law.

“We are calling on the passengers to stop entering vehicle booth as it is always dangerous during accident.

“The door of the booth usually knocks the head and other parts of the body of passengers during road crashes and this often leads to death, ’’ he said.

He also appealed to motorists and pedestrians to obey traffic rules so as to avoid accidents on the high ways. (NAN)
