Students of the Federal University of Technology FUT, Minna, Niger State has protested over alleged recurring robbery attacks off campus had blocked the institution’s gate.
The protest disrupted academic activities in the institution and motorists along Minna Bida road.
It was reliably gathered that the students initially blocked Minna-Bida road as early as 8am, disrupted academic activities in the institution and motorists along Minna Bida road.
It was revealed that the students later moved to block the main gate of the institution before the Vice Chancellor arrived.
However, it took several hours before the university security created a way for the Vice Chancellor to gain access into the university, while several staff including the Deputy Vice Chancellors and top management officials and academic staff were denied entry into the university.
Apparently, many of them eventually returned home as students insisted that no one would again access into the institution. This is coming as the university prepares to commence computer aptitude semester test for 100 and 300 level students, but the plan was truncated by the protest.
A source revealed that one student was killed in a robbery attack three days ago, while another robbery attack on Monday night left some students injured.
It was alleged that the university management inability to taken action for the protection of the students led to the protect.
A staff member of the institution on condition of anonymity pointed out that the students were provoked by the N10,000 security charges they pay every session despite insecurity bedeviling the off campus community.
