Residents in Kubwa and parts of Bwari area council as well as Gwagwalada in the FCT are admonished to take precautionary measures as their areas are likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flood.
The FCT Emergency Management Department(FEMD) issued the caution through in a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa.
According to the statement, the FEMD’s Ag Director General, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme appealed to residents to heed to the early warning issued by the Department.
Wenegieme also assured that FEMD has put in place measures to ensure the protection of lives and property of every resident.
The Ag DG, who appealed to residents living along the water channel to relocate, also called for the clearing of drainages to ensure free flow of water.
She also urged residents of the Territory to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of a disaster.
The statement read in part: “Kubwa and parts of Bwari area council as well as Gwagwalada in the FCT are likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flood within the 16th -20th June, 2024.
“A forecast by the National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Center of the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja said Ibaji in Kogi State is also likely to experience heavy down pours and floods.
“Similarly, FEWS predicts heavy rainfall in neighbouring Kaduna State in the following locations; Buruku, Jaji, Kachia, Zaria, Karu, Birnin Gwari.
“Heavy rainfall and flooding is also likely in Niger State in the following areas; Chanchaga, Katcha , Lapai, Minna, Suleja, Lavun, Bida, Sarkin Pawa, Wushishi, New Bussa.”
