The National Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nigeria, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, urged the Federal Government to introduce the strategic overhauling to combat Boko Haram terrorists in Yobe state.
The Chairman made the calls on Wednesday while solidarity visit to Yobe state, following the devastating attack by Boko Haram on a military base in Buni-Gari
Dr. Ganduje, emphasized the need for unity in tackling insecurity, and described the incident as a “national crisis” demanding urgent action.
“This is not just a Yobe state issue—it affects all Nigerians. We must liberate our forests, which bandits have turned into thriving colonies. Technology and surveillance must be prioritized to secure our lands.”
He cited the example of successful forest-clearing efforts in Kano during his tenure, where military installations and CCTV surveillance dismantled insurgent hideouts.
In his part, Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni thanked the APC delegation, acknowledging the attack as part of a broader national security threat.
“Insurgency has spread beyond the Northeast—bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists are one network. We must synchronize efforts to protect our people.”
Gov. Buni pledged to push for enhanced security measures at the upcoming Northern Governors Forum meeting on May 10, stressing the need for federal collaboration.
He urged Federal Government for deployment of military/police bases in forests to disrupt insurgent colonies. And to Install surveillance cameras and drones for real-time monitoring.
