GBV: Gombe govt directs LGAs to constitute committee on child protection

Gombe state government has directed local government area councils to constitute a committee that will handle the affairs of child protection.
The wife of Gombe state governor, Hajiya Asma’u Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya who was represented by the commissioner of women affairs Hon. Asma’u Mohammad Iganus gave the directives on Thursday, in Kaltungo during its sensitisation campaign on ending Gender Based Violence (GBV).
She urged the wife of local government area councils to chair the committee and to ensure that critical stakeholders are involved in the committee.
According to her, the committee is expected as the end of the exercise to give their report to ministry of women affairs and social development for implementation.
She assure prompt action which she said government won’t hesitate to implement it and passed it to law for proper use.
Hon Iganus also urged the committee who are expected to be constituted to step down and extended the exercise to wards levels.
“We can’t fold our hands and allow such menace to destroyed our state as measures have being taken by the government to put an end on gender based violence”, he added.
While expressing confidence, she said the fight against gender based violence against women and girls is everybody’s business that needed an attention to curb the menace.
“Our priority is to eliminate the menace inorder to have a free society for women and children she said.
“If we don’t wake up and do the needful, to fight against this menace, we will continue to have problems regarding to sexual abuse in the state she decried.
“By doing so, let’s put hands on deck to ensure that the menace is eradicated”, she stressed.
