Gen. Sarkin Yaki Backs Governor Idris For Second Term 

 

A retired Major General, Bello Sarkin Yaki, has expressed full support for the reelection of Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, citing his transformational leadership and commitment to the security of the state.

The highly decorated Nigerian military officer, said there is no alternative to Governor Idris in the forthcoming election.

Sarkin Yaki said this when the governor’s media aides, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, paid him an advocacy visit at his residence in Abuja.

The retired General said that the governor has not only generated development in various sectors but also strengthen security efforts to degrade bandits and other criminals in the state.

Sarkin Yaki described Governor Idris’ approach to security as commendable, saying he has consistently supported security agencies in the state with the necessary resources and equipment, which has led to significant reduction in insecurity.

“Kaura has performed beyond expectations. I am impressed with his performance. He has touched virtually every sector and demonstrated quality leadership through the provision of road infrastructure, healthcare services, education, agriculture and human empowerment, among others,” he said.

The retired General, who commanded the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta and served as Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Counter-Terrorism, expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded in the area of security.

He said the governor’s interventions had helped change the security situation in Kebbi State and restored greater peace and stability.

“I know that Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris has procured thousands of vehicles, motorcycles and other necessary equipment to support the security agencies in combating insurgency and other security challenges in the state,” he stated.

Sarkin Yaki recalled the role played by key security stakeholders in strengthening the state’s security architecture following the governor’s assumption of office.

“You see, when the Governor came on board, he contacted retired Ishaya Bamaiyi as Special Adviser on Security. Bamaiyi contacted me, and I nominated the present Special Adviser on Security. This has brought more sanity to the security situation,” he explained.

The retired General’s military career included serving as a United Nations peacekeeper in Bosnia, and leading the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division as General Officer Commanding (GOC).

He also recalled his appointment as Coordinator on Counter-Terrorism, where he was tasked with contributing to efforts to address the Boko Haram insurgency.

Sarkin Yaki further commended the Governor for the transformation taking place across Kebbi State, saying the changes are visible to residents and visitors alike.

“Anybody who visits Kebbi State now will see the difference and judge for himself. There is no alternative to Kauran Gwandu. The people should continue to support him,” he added.

He expressed satisfaction with Governor Idris’ leadership style and urged the people of Kebbi State to sustain their support for the administration as it continues to implement development programmes across various sectors.
