The Grassroots Mobilisers for Better Nigeria Initiative has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking across the country.

The organisation made this known on Friday as it joined the NDLEA in commemorating the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

In a statement issued by its media office, GMBNI said its collaboration with the anti-narcotics agency was aimed at taking the campaign against substance abuse to the grassroots, particularly among young people.

The group noted that its community-based interventions were designed to complement the NDLEA’s mandate by promoting public awareness, sensitising vulnerable groups and strengthening local participation in efforts to curb drug abuse.

According to the statement, the initiative’s grassroots mobilisation strategy aligns with the agency’s objectives of preventing substance abuse and reducing illicit drug trafficking through sustained community engagement.

Founder and Chairperson of GMBNI, Dr Fatima Mohamed Goni, congratulated the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), on the occasion.

She commended the agency’s sustained efforts in tackling drug-related crimes and pledged deeper collaboration to strengthen public enlightenment and expand grassroots participation in the campaign against drug abuse.

Goni expressed optimism that closer partnership between civil society organisations and the NDLEA would enhance efforts to protect Nigerian youths from the dangers of substance abuse and promote healthier communities.
