Gombe govt supplies 45m litres of water to residents daily -Official

The General Manager Gombe State Water Board, Mr. Magaji Abubakar Difa has said no fewer than 45million litres of water is supplied on a daily basis to benefit residents in Gombe and its environs.
He made this known in an interview with our correspondent in Gombe which he said the present administration inherited 10millon litres of water supply from the past administration per day but subsequently increased it to 45million litres daily.
The General Manager also revealed that due to heavy backlog inherited from the past administration, the present government is now paying N250million on operational and maintenance services at Dadin-Kowa Water Treatment Plant.
He appreciated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his foresight to constitute a task force on water to ensure that adequate water is supplied to residents in Gombe and its environs without delay.
According to him, Dadin-Kowa which is about 40 kilometres away from Gombe metropolitan, the task force on water is working tirelessly to ensure that water supply reach out to the door steps of beneficiaries on a daily basis.
While appreciating the level of water supply across the state, the General Manager said the board met with leadership of Jos Electricity Distribution Company to discuss on the need on constant power supply to enable them carryout their legitimate functions effectively.
He decried pipe leakages which he attributed to erosion and said some pipes are laid at the high rise areas while others at the lower area which courses pipes breakage due to pressure of water.
“You know we have over 50 boreholes in Gombe and its environs and we are doing everything possible to ensure that areas without water are supply regularly,” he said.
He called on residents not to hesitate in paying their water bills when it is due but noted that government inherited heavy backlog from the past administration.
