Gov. Abubakar vows to crush corruption in Bauchi civil service

Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has reiterated the determination of his administration to promote zero tolerance for corruption in the state Civil Service.
Abubakar stated this at the opening ceremony of the two day Anti corruption summit organised by the state government, in collaboration with Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) yesterday held at Zaranda Hotel Bauchi.
The Governor stated that the government has introduced some measures aimed at ensuring discipline in the system, as well as promoting good governance, saying forum like that promotes high moral values to the society and excellences in public service.
He commended ICPC and other ant graft agencies for providing necessary support to the state government to ensure transparency and accountability in the system.
Governor Abubakar said training, seminars and workshops are very essential ingredients for staff development, as well as promoting good governance, hence the decision to reintroduce training and retraining of civil servants and political appointees which he said is paramount.
Mohammed pointed out that the state government has started implementing an integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) meant to improve financial and budget management and reporting system in the state.
Earlier speaking, the Head of Service, Alhaji Liman Bello, said 450 participants are expected to benefit from the workshop, adding that the state government, apart from training and retraining of Civil Servants, over 800 state indigenes were recruited into military, police, Air force, Navy and immigration, while 1,500 civil servants were provided with in-service to study at various institutions.
In his remarks, the Provost, Anti Corruption Academy of Nigeria, Professor Sola Akinrinade, said Bauchi State was the first to key into the Anti Corruption summit and commended the good initiatives.
He said the workshop will help elected and government officials to know how to conduct themselves while occupying positions of trust and urged participants to pay attention attentively.
