Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar has charged Christians contingent of the state to the Holy Lands of Rome, Greece and Israel against abscondment.
The governor gave the warning while addressing the members of the Bauchi State Christian Pilgrims at the Government House Banquet Hall, yesterday, saying “ it will be wrong if you choose to abscond and seek to remain in the holy lands, or indeed relocate elsewhere in search of greener pastures.”
He noted that, “such an act would not be condoled by this government because we shall not allowed such irresponsibility .”
He urged them to be ambassadors of the state and to shun any act that is capable of tarnishing the image of the state, warning that government will not condone such misconduct.
According to Abubakar, “going to Israel is a journey of spiritual renewal. In this regard, you go not only for yourselves but as ambassadors of our dear state. It is our expectation that you will serve as respected citizens of Bauchi state and Nigeria whom you represent. Your journey to the holy land is sacred.”
Mohammed Abubakar asked the pilgrims to pray for the country. “We expect you therefore to pray fervently for the restoration of all that is good , development, health of leaders in the state and Nigeria.”
He urged them to be of humble character and reverence in their conduct on this pilgrimage and to be observant and note the elements that make the holy land a very compelling attraction for pilgrims all over the world.
The Chairman, Bauchi State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Engineer Daniel Shawulu commended the governor for the opportunity given them to embark on pilgrimage to Rome ,training staff of the board pilgrims and the continued support.
He appealed to the governor to provide the board with permanent office accommodation of its own in the capital.
