The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained infrastructural development across the state.

Alia made this known on Wednesday during a strategic engagement with Benue residents at the IBB Square in Makurdi, where he stressed that his government had declared an emergency on road infrastructure to ensure all roads in the state are rehabilitated.

Highlighting key achievements of his administration, the governor said over 564 primary schools had been renovated, primary healthcare centres revitalised, and general hospitals rehabilitated. He added that the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) had also been upgraded with modern facilities.

According to him, his administration inherited significant challenges, including over three years of pension arrears, but has since made progress in clearing the backlog while maintaining regular salary payments.

“Between now and May, we will clear the backlog of pension arrears,” he assured.
On security, Alia said efforts were ongoing to address insecurity in the state, noting that improved safety had enabled residents to return to their communities and resume farming activities. He commended security agencies for their efforts and urged continued public support.

The governor also disclosed plans to collaborate with the National Assembly for the creation of additional state constituencies in Gboko, Konshisha, and Ukum.

At the event, Alia inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Renewed Hope Ambassadors in the state, charging them to mobilise grassroots support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged party members to promote the achievements of the APC and work towards the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and himself in 2027.

Speaking on behalf of the ambassadors, the State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and former Nigerian Ambassador to Namibia, Terhemen Tarzoor, said both the president and the governor had demonstrated strong leadership in rebuilding the economy, empowering youths, and advancing infrastructural development.

Tarzoor called for unity and continued support for their re-election, emphasising the need for continuity to sustain ongoing progress.
