Niger state governor Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has said that the only way that the private sector can grow and play its role in the economic growth of the country is for the nation to fight corruption and greed at all levels.

“Corruption has eaten deep into our national lives; even those elected to serve the people demand something before doing their job”.

Governor Aliyu said this in Minna yesterday at the opening of the 1st Niger state Investment Climate Summit with the theme ‘Building A Sustainable Business Environment in Niger state’.

“We must fight this evil called corruption in our national life we must invest in education especially the Girl Child education this is the way to reform our national life”.

Dr Aliyu continued that for the private sector to grow and play the role expected of it, the nation should invest more in the security of the country because ‘we cannot be talking about investment if there is no security, even a charity organization will not go to an insecure environment’.

He also said that the country should find a way to create equity among the federating states which will make all states attractive to investors insisting that his postulation is not about challenging people asking for resource control but the that the nation should be fair to all parts of the country.

The Governor further said that it will not help the country and especially its private sector if the nation continues to be importer of all types of consumables, before throwing his weight behind the federal government’s plan to ban the importation of rice and other agricultural goods that the country has the potential to cultivate, he directed an Executive Council Committee which he put in place to rid the Suleja-Kaduna road, particularly at Maje, of tankers that have constituted themselves to nuisance by obstructing free movement of traffic on the road.

The Council committee has one week to clear the tankers from the area and move them to their normal parks.

As the government continues to wind down and prepare for handover to a new administration in May 2015, Governor Aliyu directed all ministries and government agencies to complete a review of the activities of the administration latest April 2015.
