Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has announced a wage award of N20,000 to all teachers in the state, reiterating commitment to their welfare package.
He stated this during the 2025 World Teachers Day celebration in Minna, organized by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Niger State wing.
The governor who announced the return of PTA levies in schools also announced that from January 2026, the retirement age for teachers stands at 65 years, while professors 70 years, to ensure that the value of teachers are retained.
Bago donated an eighteen seater bus to the NUT, adding that primary school teachers employment and promotion will be done by the local government service commission while the state Universal Basic Education board will only screen and provide information in that regard.
