The new governor of Niger State, Umar Mohammed Bago, has disclosed that women will hold the positions of vice chairman and secretary of the 25 local government areas of the state under his administration.
Bago made this known during his inaugural speech, shortly after he and his deputy took the oath of office administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Halima Ibrahim, in Minna.
He also revealed that 90 per cent of those who would be appointed to his cabinet would be youths.
According to him: “Our administration’s determination to create a better future for youths and women will be unwavering; we will create opportunities for gainful employment for them within the state and beyond.
“I am confident as always that the engagement of our women and youth in skill acquisition will create the desired multiplier effects to change the socioeconomic status of our women and youth.
The governor stated that addressing security challenges and the welfare of citizens will be top priorities on his nine-point agenda.
“We will do everything possible with our powers through collaboration with security agencies both at the national level and beyond to succeed, which is the primary purpose of any government,” he said.
Dignitaries at the occasion include former Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Senator Zaynab Kure, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, top politicians, royal fathers, and religious leaders, among others.
