Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has officially flagged off the reconstruction of the 77-km Damaturu- Gujba-Magza Road, a strategic 50-year-old highway being undertaken by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, Governor Buni described the road as a vital corridor connecting Yobe to Southern Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, and several Southeastern states.
He emphasized its importance to security, noting that it facilitates the movement of troops in the fight against insurgency.
He added that the road also supports post-insurgency recovery by providing farmers with access to their lands and markets.
Governor Buni noted that while the road was initially reconstructed by the administration of former Governor Sen. Ibrahim Geidam, increased traffic pressure in recent years had deteriorated its condition, necessitating urgent intervention.
He revealed that his administration swiftly engaged the NEDC to secure funding for the project.
“Our discussions with the commission have been fruitful, and we are witnessing the outcome today,” he said, commending the NEDC for prioritizing the request.Governor Buni noted that while the road was initially reconstructed by the administration of former Governor Sen.
