Gov. Election: Niger Polls Peaceful, Low Turnout Mars Election

Niger State Governorship and House of assembly commences accreditation and voting as early as 3:30 in most polling units visited this morning while the electorates were seen to be conducting themselves peacefully.

Our Reporter observed security presence in the polling units while enforcing movement of motorists on the streets of Minna metropolis with road blocks all over places for stop and check.

Polling units visited to include; Bosso local government and Chanchaga Local Government areas, while in Bosso the accreditation and voting started at Bosso central two Sarki 001 polling unit by 8:30 am, overhead public tank materials arrived few minutes after eight.

Also at Chanchaga filin car wash polling unit 019 Limawa A election commenced by 8:34 am, Tunga Market One polling unit 001 also at 8:30 am while Tudun Wada north market one polling units 002 at 8:30 am.

Meanwhile, at Paikoro local government, the polling unit of the Niger East Senatorial district, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa 313 Galadima one polling unit 011 election begun at 8:45 am.

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa in an interview after voting said that the zeal of the voters has reduced compared to presidential and National Assembly elections assured that it’s going to beat a credible, free, fair, transparent and acceptable to all Nigerlites.

The lawmaker commended the INEC for a perfect job by ensuring that the BVAs worked perfectly hence the reconfiguration of BVAs became necessary to avoid clashing of election dates.

Senator Musa confirmed the NASS is yet to zone it’s principal offices until after the governorship and state assembly elections, adding he is qualified to occupy any office zoned to the North Central of the country.

Niger State Resident Electoral Commissioner REC, Alhaji Ahmed Yusha’u Garki applauded the peaceful conduct of the electorates in the state, urging for its sustainability to ensure the emergence of a leader that will provide dividend of democracy to the people.

Garki reiterated that votes will count at the end of the election process just as the people will decide who to pilot the affairs in the next four years, noting that challenges are minimal because logistics were adequately provided despite poor turn out in some units while some others areas recorded higher.
