Yobe state governor, Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam has granted pardon to five prisoners who were convicted and jailed for various offences in two prisons across the state.
This was contained in a press release from the office of Abdullahi Bego, the Director-General Press Affairs to the governor and made available to our correspondent in Damaturu, the state capital yesterday.
According to the statement, the pardons were granted based on the Prerogative of Mercy powers conferred on the governor by Section 212 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended and based on the recommendation of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy chaired by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Ahmed Mustapha Goniri.
Beneficiaries of the pardon includes; Mohammed Gidado – convicted and sentenced to ten years in prison, Adamu Hardo – convicted and sentenced to four years in prison, Kachallah Bukar – convicted and sentenced to two years in prison.Others are, Jibrin Mohammed – convicted and sentenced to three years in prison, Baba Isa – convicted and sentenced to ten years in prison.
All those pardoned were all serving their prison terms at Potiskum Medium Security Prison, in Potiskum local government area of the state and the pardons granted by the governor are with immediate effect.
