As part of effort to boost an agrarian economy in Jigawa state, the State Government delegation, led by Governor Umar Namadi, has held a strategic partnership meeting with the Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn, on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar, Senegal.
The high-level discussions centered on strengthening collaboration to accelerate agricultural transformation in Jigawa State, with particular focus on key areas critical to the state’s agrarian economy.
The discussions focused on exploring practical strategies to boost productivity, strengthen market access, and enhance the competitive capacities of rice and wheat farmers.
Governor Namadi highlighted Jigawa State’s commitment to leveraging global partnerships to advance food security, modernize agricultural practices, and kindle inclusive economic growth, saying that agriculture remains a central pillar of his administration’s 12-Point Agenda under the vision of building a greater Jigawa.
He noted that Jigawa is already Nigeria’s leading producer of wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus flower, among other key crops, adding that the state government will continue to build on the success of its ongoing agricultural initiatives to utilize the full potential of Jigawa’s vast arable land.
