Nasarawa state governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule has identified languages as part of instruments of fostering peace , unity and development in any society as well as urged the people of Nasarawa state for its sustainability .
The Governor, who made the assertion in Lafia during a recent launch of book tilted “The Languages of Nasarawa State”, authored by Dr. Ayitono Ayewa of the Nasarawa state University Keffi.
Sule pointed out that it is important to know the impact of Languages in our Culture as it is also extremely important not to abandon our Languages, admonishing the people of the State and Nigerians to embrace their Languages and also teach their children at all times .
He assured that the copies of book would be distributed to all primary schools across the Three senatorial districts of the state as well as charged all Headmasters of Schools in the State to ensure its implementation by proper utilization by teaching Pupils for the betterment of the younger generation in the state,
Earlier, Chairman of the event Senator representing Nasarawa West at the National Assembly Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo said Languages serve as identity mark of people and their culture in every society , calling on the people of Nasarawa state not to ignore their culture and Languages.
Senator Onawo, who also made an appeal to the state government to consider and introduce indigenous languages in the School Curriculum for the benefit of the future generation.
Lamenting that the Western culture has dominated the mode of communication in the immediate domain, the governor called for a rethink by the stakeholders .
According to him, language is a strong instrument for identifying, understanding, educating, socializing, promoting and unifying people at all times.
