Nasarawa State Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule has implored religious leaders in the state to always preach messages that would promote peaceful coexistence amongst their followers for the unity, progress and development of the state and the nation as a whole.
He stressed that the role of religious leaders is very paramount especially in the sphere of maintaining peace and harmony.
He gave the charge while delivery his speech during the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Nasarawa State Chapter at the weekend.
The Governor, who was represented by his special adviser on Youth and Sport Development Hon. Yakubu Kwantan said that the APC administration in the state will continue to accord priority to religious institutions in the areas of pilgrimage and fair treatment as well as urged Christians in the state to unite for the progress of the church and the entire state.
Also, other speakers at the event, ranging from the chairman of the occasion professor Jerry Gana, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, Senator Patricia Akwashiki to the former minister of information Mr. Labaran Maku, all charged Christians in the state to unite and speak with one voice as well as support the leadership in order to enable them carry out their responsibilities for the benefit of the Association to grow spiritually.
In his speech, the new CAN chairman Nasarawa State Chapter very; Rev. Sunday Emmah PhD assured Christians in the state his readiness and commitment to do his best as well as solicited the support and co-operation from the followership.
“You are our strength. You are the CAN. We are only your servants. There can be no us without you. We are assuring you that we will be a voice for you”. Rev. Sunday added.
The CAN chairman therefore, applauded the government of Nasarawa State for the cordial relationship had with the past CAN leaders.
He maintained that the past leaders left a legacy of a harmonious and collaborative working relationship with secular authorities, equally he promised to extend the gesture to the present administration in the state.
