Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has sacked the State Commissioner for Environment, Igbiks Tamuno.
This is contained in a statement by Kelvin Ebiri, Special Assistant on Media to the Rivers State Governor.
“The Governor directed the sacked Commissioner to submit all Government Documents and Property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment,” the statement read.
Although the reason for the Commissioner’s sack is still unknown, there are speculations that it could be related to his comments at a recent media engagement.
Tamuno’s sack came shortly after he hosted a media conference where he threatened to shut down firms responsible for emitting any form of soot in the state.
The former Commissioner during the media speech had promised that the Ministry of Environment and relevant stakeholders would collaborate to increase monitoring of air quality at various parts of the state.
