Gov. Yusuf warns headteachers against diversion of teaching, learning materials

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has issued a stern warning to teachers against selling or diversion of teaching and learning materials to boost performance of the students.
The Governor gave the warning recently, while flagging off the distribution of the multi-million Naira teaching and learning materials to Education Management for onward distribution to public schools across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
Yusuf noted that whoever is found selling or diverting the items would be dealt with decisively.
He said: “Let no one divert these items. Whoever divert the items, we will swear that God punish them. And whoever is apprehended will be dealt with decisively.
“These are items lacked by our students in the past administration and responsible for why Kano is backward and ranks among the last three on the bottom.
“But as God would have it with government effort, Kano now ranks third in the last NECO examination.”
The Governor further reiterated the government’s commitment to revamp the education sector.
He said the government has placed priority on training and retraining of teachers and also embarked on massive rehabilitation of schools and construction of new blocks of classroom to ensure the conducive learning environment for boys and girls in schools.
“I stand before you today as we take yet another step towards getting the education sector on its foot in Kano State.
“I am happy to say that as the people’s government, we are fully committed to address these issues in our commitment to restore the educational system.
“Let me say that since the declaration of emergency on education, we have been working tirelessly to ensure that we transform the educational sector in our dear state”, he stressed.
Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner of Education, Umar Doguwa commended the governor for his untiring support and commitment towards reviving the education sector of the state.
He said the declaration of the State of Emergency on education by the governor has been a promise well delivered beyond expectations.
Our correspondent reports that teaching and learning materials distributed include, 120,000 cartons of chalks, 97,532 workbooks, 93,600 exercise books, 199,234 classroom registers, 350,000 reports sheets, 351 lesson observations books and national anthem books.
