In a significant move to revitalize education in areas ravaged by insurgency, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday commissioned a 72-unit housing complex for teachers in Mafa Local Government Area.
The project, comprising two and three-bedroom apartments, is a cornerstone of the Zulum administration’s effort to address the critical shortage of teacher accommodations and improve welfare in the education sector.
While presenting keys to the beneficiaries, Governor emphasized that the welfare of teachers is paramount to achieving qualitative education.
“Providing decent and secure housing is one of my administration’s key priorities,” the governor stated.
The newly commissioned complex includes 24 two-bedroom semi-detached units and 48 three-bedroom units spread across eight three-storey blocks.
Each unit is equipped with basic amenities and designed to provide a comfortable and dignified living space for teaching staff and their families.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, explained that the beneficiaries were selected from both primary and secondary schools.
He commended Governor Zulum for prioritizing teacher welfare through the provision of decent accommodation.
