Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated N100 million to the Nigerian Army University, Biu (NAUB), to boost research and infrastructural development at the institution.

Zulum announced the donation while receiving the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawan Bala Buratai, and other principal officers of the university at the Government House, Maiduguri.

He also pledged the state government’s support for the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at NAUB to increase the number of doctors and frontline healthcare workers in the state.

In addition, scholarships will be provided to indigent students from all 27 local government areas of Borno to study at the institution.

“The Commissioner for Education has been directed to work with NAUB to determine its carrying capacity and identify how many students we can sponsor,” the governor said.

Zulum emphasised the need for the three federal universities in the state—University of Maiduguri, Nigerian Army University Biu, and the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship Bama—to align their programmes with Borno’s development needs.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buratai, commended the governor for the financial support and ongoing construction of staff accommodation, while appealing for more sponsorships in engineering and technical fields.

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the equitable distribution of projects across Borno when he received the leadership of the Biu Forum at the Government House.

He promised increased investment in security, education, infrastructure, and healthcare, stressing that his government’s policies are guided by posterity and not politics.

The National Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, noted that Zulum’s administration had already executed over 90 projects in Biu Emirate, including the Eye and Dental Hospital, new LGA Secretariat, road networks, mega schools, vocational training centre, healthcare facilities, and housing estates.
