Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has signed the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of N617.95 billion tagged the “Budget of Consolidation.”
The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Gombe, shortly after the formal presentation of the bill by members of the Gombe State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo.
A breakdown of the 2026 budget shows that N189 billion, representing 21.6 per cent, is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while N428.5 billion, or 69.4 per cent, is earmarked for capital projects. The allocation underscores the administration’s continued emphasis on infrastructure development, efficient service delivery and sustainable economic growth.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya had earlier presented a N535.69 billion budget proposal to the House. Following legislative scrutiny, the Assembly approved an upward review of over N82 billion, bringing the total budget size to N617.95 billion.
One of the major highlights of the budget is the allocation of N12 billion to the regional security fund, amounting to a N1 billion monthly contribution, in line with resolutions of the Northern States Governors’ Forum. This, the Governor noted, positions Gombe State as a leading contributor to collective efforts to tackle insecurity in the region.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Inuwa Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, completion of ongoing legacy projects, and the delivery of people-centred development across urban and rural areas of the state.
He said the 2026 budget prioritises critical sectors including health, education, social investment, environmental protection and mineral resources development, with a special allocation for the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
“This administration remains fully committed to meeting the needs and aspirations of our people through a budget that is realistic, responsible and citizen-focused,” the Governor said.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated that no sector of the state’s economy has been neglected since he assumed office, adding that the impact of government interventions is visible across health, education, infrastructure and social welfare.
He commended the House of Assembly for what he described as a thorough and people-oriented review of the budget, assuring that the government would sustain its record of fiscal discipline. According to him, budget implementation under his leadership has consistently exceeded 70 per cent.
The Governor also praised the lawmakers for their unity and commitment throughout the budget process, noting that their full attendance during the presentation of the estimates reflected strong cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for continued support to Gombe State through various development programmes, while appealing for increased interventions in the coming year.
Earlier, Speaker of the House, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, said the lawmakers were at the Government House to formally present the 2026 Appropriation Bill for the Governor’s assent.
He disclosed that the House received the budget proposal on November 13, 2025, subjected it to detailed scrutiny, and held an extended Appropriation Committee session in Calabar, Cross River State, which led to modest upward adjustments to the budget.
The Speaker praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the numerous development projects across the state, particularly in the health and education sectors, recalling that a recent state-organised health summit attracted experts from around the world who acknowledged Gombe State’s steady progress in healthcare delivery.
Hon. Luggerewo said the Assembly’s amendments were made in good faith and in the best interest of the people, while also commending the Governor for fostering a cordial working relationship among the arms of government and for providing logistical support that has enhanced the efficiency of the legislature.
