Governor Oyebanji is a pretender, dwelling only in propaganda – Engr. Kayode Ojo

An aspirant in the forthcoming 2026 Ekiti state governorship election, Engr. Kayode Ojo has described the incumbent, Governor Abiodun Oyebanji as a pretender who cherishes propaganda because there is nothing he can point at as his achievements in the past three years.

Ojo who spoke to newsmen shortly after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday said if given the opportunity, he would use the resources of the state to work for the people.

He lamented that in the past three years, the state and its people have not seen any meaningful development and change, despite huge amounts of money accruing to the state from the federation account and other sources.

“Records sho that between November 2022 and June 2025, the sum of N292.24 billion Naira was received as federal allocation, with internally generated revenue at N89.6 billion, while federal allocations to the local governments exceed N150 billion, not including various federal government interventions and loans.

“In the hands of a competent manager, these funds could have transformed the state. Instead, under the current administration, the results are absent. We must ask: how many landmark projects has he commissioned in three years? Why has he not invited national leaders for project inauguration, as other governors have done? Even his daughter’s wedding was held in Ibadan, rather than Ekiti, due to embarrassment over the state’s lack of achievements. Despite these substantial resources, there is nothing tangible to show “.

The governorship hopeful equally said he is confident that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party will conduct a free and fair primary because of the need to have a popular candidate who will win the state for the ruling APC.

“Our party leaders have stated that they will ensure the election of a popular candidate who can win, not someone who will struggle. I am that candidate. We enjoy the support of the majority of APC members in the state.

“We are confident of winning the primary and achieving a resounding victory in the general election. We seek only a level playing field from the National Executive, free of intimidation and harassment. Security operatives must ensure protection for all members as they campaign,,” he said.

Ojo said the Ekiti election is equally about getting a leader capable of mobilizing for the President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election and not someone who will alienate the people through non performance.
