Govs, Speaker, storm Aso Rock as Supreme Court reaffirms Tinubu’s victory

No fewer than seven state governors stormed the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Thursday to congratulate President Bola Tinubu on the reaffirmation of his victory at the February 25 presidential poll.

The roll call of the governors included, Duoye Diri of Bayelsa, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun and Yahaya Bello of Kogi.

Others were Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Abdulraman Abdulrazak of Kwara and Babajide SanwoOlu of Lagos.

Also at the Aso Rock to rejoice with Tinubu on his judicial victory was the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, as well as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Speaking to newsmen during the visit, Fr. Alia asked all Nigerians ro join hands with President Tinubu to move the country forward, noting that he has big plans for the country.

He said: “It is quiet exciting because now we are going to move ahead. I know that our President has great plans for the nation and particularly in my state and I will not want us to miss out on that at all. His victory is not just a victory for the nation but those of us who are not on the same page for growth and development as it is intending, it is a larger victory for all of us.”

On whether the Supreme Court verdict would earn respect for the judiciary, the Benue governor said: “These are people who are meticulous with the books. Today is a blessing for Nigeria that our sitting President carries the day. Please let us all join hands with him to taking our nation to higher heights because he not just the potential he has already started exhibiting what will bring our further growth.”

Also reacting to the judgement, Speaker Abbas noted that Thursday’s verdict of the apex court was a victory foretold, adding that it was time for the APC to sit down and see what can be done for the citizens.

The Speaker said: “To God be the glory. It is not something unexpected is something that we have been waiting. We know ultimately, what we heard today is what is going to be said but the fact that it has come at this early hours, we have nothing to say, but to say thank God for Nigeria. Thank God for all the good people of Nigeria who prayed for this particular day for this historic victory.

“I think this time around, after this pronouncement, we have no excuse, but to go back to business as usual, to go back and reset our agenda and see what we can be able to do for the people of Nigeria for the next three and a half or four years.”
