Gov’t, Foundation dole out food items to IDPs

The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in collaboration with Near Foundation, a non-profit organization, carried out distribution of assorted food items to some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Wasa resettlement area of Abuja, the nation’s capital city.
According to FEMA’s Information Officer, Danson Magaji, said such kind of partnership aligns with the Agency’s vision, which is reducing disaster disk for a safe and happy FCT.
While distributing the items, Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, explained that FEMA decided to partner with the Foundation to celebrate the day, because of its track record in humanitarian gestures.
Mohammed: “We keyed into the program to ensure that we put smiles on their (IDPs) faces.
“You can see we are giving them food items, we will also be providing a borehole to reduce difficulty in accessing clean and healthy water in this settlement”.
On his part, Mr. Mohammed Ali, of the Foundation while commending the partnership noted that the seamless working environment FEMA had afforded them to thrive in fulfilling their mandate in the FCT.
“We are here for the distribution of food items to the displaced persons, because they need it, this is to mark the World Humanitarian Day.
“Working with FEMA has made it smooth and easy and we look forward for continued partnership in lifting the lives of those who are downtrodden in the FCT”, he stated.
Not left out, the women leader of the IDP settlement in Wasa, Lydia Haruna, who responded on behalf of the beneficiaries mainly women and children, expressed joy and gratitude for the initiative.
She thanked FEMA management and Near Foundation for not forgetting them, but insisting on alleviating their sufferings by providing food items and borehole water.
