Grace Silas murder: Reps ask IGP to ensure speedy delivery of justice, prosecution of her killers

The House Representatives on Tuesday asked the Inspector General of Police to ensure the speedy delivery of Justice of the killing of Miss Chalya Grace Silas who was brutally murdered while jogging in Barnawa, Kaduna South Local Government Area on October 18, 2023.
The House equally called for immediate arrest and prosecution of killers of Youth Corps member, Chalya Silas in Kaduna State.
The House also called for adequate compensation for family of the victim, as a minute silence was subsequently observed in her honour.
Silas was reportedly murdered by criminals, who accosted her while jogging on the morning of October 18, 2023, and stabbed her to death for questioning their demand for her GSM handset.
Adopting a motion sponsored by Hon. Beni Lar on Tuesday, the House called on the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to intensify search for the hoodlums with a view to bringing them to book, and also urged the National Youth Service Corps, to have a review of the scheme to ensure the security of serving corps members.
In a chat with journalists after the motion was adopted, Lar said the murder of Chalya Silas, being an only child “has left the parents, and the entire people of Langtang very devastated”, adding that her motion was a demand for justice.
On his part, Chairman of the House Committee on Youth Development, Hon. Martins Esin described the act as very condemnable, saying “we pray that this does not happen again”.
He said while it is the expectation of the House that the IGP carry out a speedy investigation for the delivery of justice, the committee would take the mandate before it seriously, and ensure that adequate compensation is delivered to the family.
