Group blames Nigeria’s underdevelopment to recycling of leaders

A nonpolitical group known as Benue Young Aspirants’ Forum, BYAF has lamented over the recycling of leadership position in Nigeria, noting that this is largely responsible for underdevelopment of the country.
Chairman of the group, Gideon Inyom who is also, an aspirant for Benue North West Senatorial District made the lamentation at a maiden meeting of the forum.
He recalled that in the past, young people at the age of 30 years held leadership positions and performed well, regretting that over the years, young people have been denied leadership opportunity of the nation.
“In the past, the colonial masters provided succession opportunity for the youths but unfortunately what is happening now is a recycling of old uninformed leaders who are not in tune with new trend of governance. Leadership in the 21st century is knowledge and technology driven not the recycling of corrupt and mediocre leaders,” he fumed.
Gideon urged political parties in the country to allocate 60 percent to young people, warning sternly against any form of political violence by contesters to attain position in Benue towards 2019.
Commenting, Nandeve Terhide, a Human Resource and Management Consultant decried that Nigeria and Benue lack idea driven leaders to advance development. While Wuaga Isaac who is aspiring for Makurdi /Guma Federal constituency said foundation and process that produces leadership remains Nigeria’s biggest problem, adding that the system is always skewed and manipulated in favor of some political bourgeois.
Iyo Hilary Terngu an aspirant for Kwande West State Assembly noted that the mindset and archaic ideological thinking by our leaders has continually hampered development of the country, insisting that the new political trend should emphasize selfless service to the people.
