Nigeria citizen’s watch for good governance (NCWGG), has called for presidential support and public confidence for Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari
The National Chairman, NCWGG, Collins Idowu Eshiofeh made this call in a press briefing in Abuja.
He urged President Tinubu to disregard the ill-informed demand for the resignation of the GCEO.
He emphasized that the call did not emanate from a place of patriotic concern but it emanates from aggrieved rent-seekers who profited from the decades of opacity that Engr. Ojulari is dismantling.
He emphasized the integrity and commitment to transparency of Engineer Bayo Ojulari, detailing his career and his support for the renewable hope agenda of President Tinubu.
He described the call for the resignation of the GCEO as a mischievous demand from aggrieved rent seekers who profited from the old discredited order.
He emphazied that the support of the president is essential for the stability of the energy sector and the confidence of the international investment community.
The declared full, unwavering, and unqualified support for the board, management, and GCO of the NNPCL.
The chairman restated the call for the National Assembly’s joint investigative panel to conclude its work expeditiously.
He urged the public not to be deceived by the noise from certain quarters, emphasizing the current board and management’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We recognise the enormity of the task you have undertaken. We appreciate the complexity of securing nearly 5,000 kilometres of pipeline network across difficult terrain and a challenging security environment. We applaud the transformation of NNPCLimited from a chronic loss maker into a dividend-paying commercial entity. We stand with you, not just in words, but with the evidence of figures and audited reports that any well-meaning Nigerian can examine.
“To the National Assembly, we restate our call for the joint investigative panel to conclude its work expeditiously. We are confident that when the final report is made public, it will confirm what we already know, that these expenditures are properly incurred, competitively awarded, and yielding measurable value for the Nigerian people. Speeding up that process is the only way to put an end to the kind of reckless and unfounded allegations we have witnessed in the last 24 hours,” he stated.
He noted that the company refuted claims that it spent 7.13 trillion naira on vague security expenses, explaining it as a comprehensive national security operation that increased Nigeria’s crude oil production from 900,000 to 1.6 million barrels per day, generating over $70 billion annually.
The group emphasized transparency, accountability, and the need for continued support to maintain stability and attract international investment.
Eshiofeh mentioned that the company now releases monthly financial and operational reports, establishing a transparency portal for procurement records and contract awards.
He disclosed that all contracts for security services undergo rigorous procurement processes, and the identity of contractors is a matter of public record.
“We therefore call on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to disregard completely the ill-informed and mischievous demand for the resignation of the GCEO that has appeared in this publication. This call did not emanate from a place of patriotic concern. It emanates from aggrieved rent-seekers who profited from the decades of opacity that Engr. Ojulari is dismantling. They see a man who has posted profits, published accounts, and broken the cartels that once fed on the national wealth, and their instinct is to pull him down.
“President Tinubu must continue to give his full support to the NNPCLimited under the leadership of the Board led by Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida and the NNPC leadership headed by Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari. That support is essential for the stability of the energy sector and for the confidence of the international investment community that is watching Nigeria’s reform trajectory with keen interest,” he stated.
