Group cautions against lawlessness in Nigeria

A group in Benue State known as Movement Against Fulani Occupation (MAFO) has cautioned that Nigeria may head for a lawless nation if the issue of incessant Fulani attacks is not well tackled.
The group gave the caution during a press briefing held yesterday in Makurdi, noting that the attacks are a piecemeal coup against Nigeria.
Led by Dr. Sam Abah, they questioned why peace should come before justice when the latter should lead the former.
MAFO therefore, demands from the Federal Government declaration of Miyetti Allah as a terrorist organization forthwith, insisting too, the arrest and prosecution of leaders of Miyetti Allah who have owned up to the Benue killings for their direct involvement in multiple murder and destruction in the State as well as urge the federal government to set in motion a machinery for the reconstruction, rehabilitation and compensation of communities ravaged by the over 47 separate attacks from 2011 to 2018.
In another development, Plateau State Governor Simon Dalong has regretted that his State and Benue has lost over 7,000 Indigenes from unprovoked Fulani herdsmen attacks.
The Governor who made this disclosure through his Commissioner for Town Planning Felix Fwanter yesterday during a condolence visit to Governor Samuel Ortom at Government House, Makurdi, frowned at the continuous onslaught against both States, saying “the killings are one murder to many”.
He also, said Benue and Plateau must be strengthened by a collective desire for peace and development, maintaining that they must find a common ground to face these challenges.
“Without the votes from Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau States, the fortune of the All Progressives Congress, APC would be different. So, we cannot afford to break the ties that bond us together”,Fwanter stated.
