A group of concerned Nigerians comprising technocrats and seasoned politicians from Northern region, Change for Development (CD) has commended the Headquarters Special Assignment of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for successes so far recorded in the zone.
According to the President of the group, Comrade Abdullahi Mamman, who stated this while speaking with Journalists at the Northern Senators Forum Retreat in Katsina, the service haf regained its momentum since the coming of Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs, Col Hammed Ali (rtd).
He also singled out leader if the team, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Gambo Azare, for commendation, saying he brought his wealth of experience to bear on the job.
He said the team leader had been able to galvanise his ifficers to prevent banned items from flooding the Nigerian markets through the zone.
He further commended the team that despite the many borders in the zone it had been able effectively manned and has checked nefarious activities of smugglers in the area.
He said the effectiveness of Azare’s team on surveillance of the borders had made the youth of the area, hitherto indulging in taking drugs and smuggling activities, to embrace genuine ways of livelihood.
He said the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari had embarked on the policy of change that it was on, adding that Azare’s anti smuggling team had sanitised the area putting smugglers at bay.
He said the academic backwardness in the region was not the only threat bedevilling the North but that poverty was also to blame.
He however, said that the magic wand of Azare’s team was restoring many of the youth to life of decency.
