The recent sack of the board of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) by the Minister of Sports, Dr. Tanimu Danagogo following an interlocutory injunction passed on it by a Jos High Court has been described as sheer witch hunt and a threat to the development of soccer in Nigeria. Towards this end a group called Nigeria Football First (NFF), have vowed to petition FIFA over this crass injustice meted to the Maigari led board of the NFF even if the decision is reversed.
The group argued that coming shortly after Nigeria’s ouster from the current World Cup, the court case, its judgment and the execution and the subsequent appointment of a sole administrator for the football body smacks off a conspiracy to do away with the present board of the NFF by all means.
Spokesman of the non governmental body and a Peace Ambassador, Alhaji Abdulrahman Sade, told newsmen in Abuja that the minister would have studied the judgment thoroughly before executing the court order. “We are amazed because we just came back from the World Cup only for us to read in the media that the board has been sacked. This is unfair to the board and to Nigerians who have rallied round to support the NFF”, he said.
He also condemned in strong terms the arrest of the NFF Chairman describing it as inhuman and an infringement on the fundamental rights of Aminu Maigari who he said has brought honour and glory to Nigeria through the game of Soccer.
