The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA) has dragged Zamfara state government, Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and the Speaker of the state house of assembly, Sanusi Garba Rikiji to Federal High Court seeking for court order to stop the respondents from selling the 19 million unit of shares jointly owned by the state and the 14 local councils of the state.
The challenging group prayed for the court to restrain the respondents from carrying on their plan for selling out the shares until, the final determination of the court.
In a submission judicially featured in the affidavit supporting the summon, it was submitted by the NYA that the sale of the 19 million units of shares by the state government is back-pulling to the growth of the state economy, being that the state lacks any development.
The chairman also said in the submission, that there were over 5000 unemployed youths to whom the ownership of the share would guarantee the opportunity of securing employment, while sale of the shares will greatly jeopardize the interests of the citizens of the state, particularly the students, whose bursary allowances have not been paid for over six months.
In a written address backing the motion on notice, the solicitors to the plaintiffs, Ibrahim Jibril ESQ pleaded the court that the grant of the application in favour of the applicant will prevent the respondents from selling the shares belonging to the state and the 14 local government councils.
