The Jigawa state Coalition of Civil Society on Nutrition (JICON), has commended Governor Mohammed Abubakar Badaru for the approval of N150 million to save stunted and malnurished children across 27 local government in the state.
This was contained in a release signed by the chairman of the coalition, Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafin gana and made it available to news men over the weekend in Dutse the state capital.
The coalition also as a matter of urgency urged the state government to release the funds to save thousands of Jigawa children who suffer from acute malnutrition for better future of the state.
According to the statement, “the prompt release of the said fund to State Primary Health Care Development Agency PHCDA who would in turn transmit it to UNICEF for the purchase of Ready to Use Therapeutic (RUTF) will save more malnourished children in the state”.
The statement also said, the JICON has appreciated all Ministries,Departments and Agencies in the state that have included Nutrition package in their budget.
“JARDA, SUBEB, SSG Office, Ministry of Finance, Directorate of Budget and Economic Planning that accesses fund specified in their respective budget for 2018 with a view to reducing the current stunting rate in the state amongst our children”, it reads.
The release further commended the efforts of Save the Children International (SCI), Action Against Hunger (ACF), under Child Development Grant Program (CDGP), PERL-ECP, MNCH2 and other Development Partners in the state for zeal to save the stunting malnourished children in the state.
“Nutrition is one of the most important components of child development and that was the major reason why the coalition is working tirelessly in this area to ensure no child is left behind for the intervention.”, it concluded.
