Group takes voter registration mobilisation to communities in Yobe

The Engineer Abubakar D. Aliyu Solidarity Movement for Good Governance has commenced a massive voter registration mobilisation exercise across communities in Yobe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the flag-off in Damaturu on Saturday, the Patron of the Movement, Mohammed Yusuf Ajiji, described the campaign as a patriotic, non-partisan effort to strengthen democracy.

“Our mobilisation, beginning today and continuing across our dear State in the days ahead, is a non-partisan exercise driven purely by patriotism. Its sole purpose is to organise our citizens to fulfil one of their most important obligations under our democratic system. This initiative is necessary because democracy is only as strong as the participation of its citizens,” he said.

Ajiji stressed that voter registration is the foundation of credible elections and urged all eligible citizens, especially youths, women, and first-time voters, to seize the opportunity to register.

“Registration is the first step to exercising our right to vote, and without it, our voices cannot be heard in the ballot box. This is why our movement, inspired by the leadership values of His Excellency, Engineer Abubakar D. Aliyu, driven by selfless service, has decided to lead by example and mobilize our people to register,” he declared.

Reiterating that the exercise transcends partisan lines, Ajiji added:

“This exercise is not about one person or one party; it is about the future of Yobe State and Nigeria. It is about empowering every eligible citizen…to take their rightful place in shaping the destiny of our communities.”

He acknowledged the restoration of peace and security to Yobe State under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that many residents had lost their voter cards during years of insecurity.

“This is why it is now imperative to revalidate our power to vote. For first-time voters, this is your moment to rise, register, and be counted,” he urged.

Ajiji commended the Movement’s volunteers and coordinators for their readiness to traverse the state’s three zones, calling their sacrifice “the fuel of democracy.” He also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and the media to partner with the Movement to ensure no eligible voter is left unregistered.

“By registering and encouraging others to register, we are building a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Yobe State — the very vision that Engineer Abubakar D. Aliyu has always stood for,” he said.

During the visit to Shehu Hashimi community, the Village Head, Mallam Sa’idu Hassan, thanked the delegation for embarking on the campaign and called on INEC to establish a polling unit in the area to enable the community to vote with ease. He noted that the community has over 5,000 houses with a huge population of eligible voters.

Other communities visited by the Engineer Abubakar D. Aliyu Solidarity Movement for Good Governance include Bukka Bakwai, Family Support, among others.
