The Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development has called on aggrieved Nigerians to come out in numbers to protest against the lack of reliable electricity in Nigeria.
The group said their aim is to ensure that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) prioritizes the needs of the people and works towards finding sustainable solutions to the power crisis.
The Secretary of the group, James Ishaku, in a statement shared with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, said, “We shall be blocking all entrances and roads leading to the TCN National Headquarters, Abuja office on the 24th of May, 2024, should the poor power supply continue.”
According to James, “We have to engage you now because we have lost faith in your role as the MD/CEO of an agency with a core mandate to sustain electricity distribution in Nigeria.”
He said, “We write with deep concern regarding the ongoing power problems in Nigeria and the inefficiency of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in addressing these issues.
“As citizens of Nigeria, we have experienced firsthand the frequent power outages and disruptions that have become a daily occurrence in our country.”
The statement read, “The lack of reliable electricity has had a detrimental impact on our daily lives, businesses, and overall economic development.
“It is unacceptable that we continue to suffer from power shortages despite the government’s promises to improve the situation.
“Your responsibility for transmitting electricity across the country has failed to provide Nigerians with the reliable power supply they deserve.
“We demand transparency, accountability, and immediate action to improve the power infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for all Nigerians.
“We are not alone in this; our sister organizations within the country are with us and will join us as required.
“It is time for the government and relevant authorities to take decisive action and prioritize the welfare of its citizens.”
