From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi
Groups under the aegis of Special Group Mobilization and Benue Levies have condemned in strong terms the call for resignation of the Special Adviser to governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Joseph Har.
The state assembly had on Tuesday slammed seven days ultimatum to the two security advisers to the governor, Joseph Har and Col. Alex Igbaya to resign their appointment if they cannot proffer solution to the insecurity challenges in the state.
Leaders of the groups, Comrades Terungwa Tyongi and James Abeikya respectively in their separate statements described the governor’s security chiefs as people of high intellectual who have brought their experiences to bear in tackling insecurity in the state.
They said that since assumption of office of the security advisers, five armed bandits who flouted the state anti open grazing law in Ukum and Makurdi LGAs of the state had been arrested and been prosecuted.
In particular, the Special Group Mobilization noted that the security advisers’ initiative to stop Livestock Guards from arresting cattle have reduced invasion and killings of innocent people in Benue communities.
“We hail the decision taken by the Security Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia to stop Livestock Guards from the unwholesome practices whereby in the past, they arrested cows and left our villages unprotected for herdsmen to attack and kill our people.
“We will hold Assembly members responsible if they pressurise the Security Adviser to reverse this decision because the old practice was to arrest cattle and leave behind their owners who later engaged mercenaries to invade our communities and killed innocent people,” Tyongi said in the statement.
Also, Abeikya in his own submission said, “since assumption of office of Joseph Har, five armed bandits who flouted the state anti open grazing law are being prosecuted.
The group leaders advised the lawmakers to be in touch with their respective constituents to be abreast with various moves and initiatives the present administration is taking to combat insecurity.
