The Acting Rector Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Barki has been reportedly kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen on his way to Ugbokolo, after an official assignment in Makurdi.
It was gathered that the Acting Rector was abducted alongside some management staff of the polytechnic and a driver.
It was also gathered that the abductors moved them away from the highway, and reportedly abandoned the official vehicle of the polytechnic.
However, twenty four hours after his kidnap, it was learnt that the abductors had called the family of the Acting Rector, and demanded for seventy million naira as ransom for his release.
Immediate past Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dr. Augustine Akpen Leva who visited the family prayed for the immediate release of the acting Rector.
He also called on the Benue State Government to improve on the security situation of the state to enable Benue people and other commuters travel safely on the roads.
When contacted, both the Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Internal Security, Chief Joseph Har and the Benue Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene confirmed the incident.
Har said that Barki was kidnapped three days ago, but said he was unaware of any ransom negotiation.
According to him, his men have been in the bush since the incident happened combing the bushes to rescue the victim
