Gunmen kill 3 in Kogi

Three persons were said to have been killed in Okofi community in Kogi local government area of Kogi State, following an attack by unknown gunmen in the early hours of yesterday.
The attack was said to have been carried out while the worshippers of the sleepy community were observing the early morning Subhi prayers in the mosque.
Peoples Daily reliably gathered that the Chief Imam of Okofi community may have been killed in the attack, even as some reports are speculating a reprisal attack.
It would be recalled that about seven persons were said to have been killed and several others injured by unidentified gunmen in Agbudu village, few days ago, in the same local government area.
The unidentified gunmen along Okpareke- Agbudu road were said to have ambushed a vehicle conveying some Bassas who were last weekend returning from Lokoja market to their community.
Recent report leading to the killing of three persons at the early hours of yesterday, is coming on the heels of the weekend attack with people alleging a reprisal or cross boarder attack.
Following the attack, Peoples Daily learnt that the students of Government Girls Secondary School, located in Kotonkarfe has been momentarily closed down, with the students and all staff of the school said to have all ran for safety of their lives.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP William Aya has confirmed the attack on Okofi community, while reacting to the ugly development in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja yesterday.
He said the state commissioner of police, Mr.Edeh Ayuba has directed the Divisional Police Officer in the area to move in immediately, to avert further break down of law and order.
