The Senior Staff Association of the Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (SANU) chapters of the Federal University Gusau have jointly staged a peaceful demonstration over non payments of about 10 months salaries and that of minimum wage arrears.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after the demonstration, the Chairman of the SSANU, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), Malam Mudassir Musa, said the protesting unions were compelled to shout out over refusal of the Federal Government to settle their demands.
Malam Musa cries that, the unions have sat severally with the government officials with a view to recognize and find solutions to the tabled problems which mostly were financials surrounding salary increment for the promoted staffers and the payments of outstanding earned allowances.
“We were called upon to join IPPIS through which we had expected smooth flow of payments but, until this day, we could not witness anything out of it to encourage our hopes rather than experiencing too many irregularities, the hazy development which made it necessary to shout out in protest.
“We have some changes in our salaries and allowances supposed to have been worked upon by the Federal Government, again, there were still no signs for resolution for that, it seems they reluctantly ignored what they owe us in that aspect”, Mudassir further cried.
Responding, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration of the University, Dr. Ahmad Galadima, assures the protesters that, the management staffers of the University will sit and look into the submitted letter of grievances and to ensure doing everything possible for the Federal Government to listen to it for amicable resolutions.
Adding that, “You should realize that, your salaries were processed and paid by the University, but we could only symphathize with you upon the kind of situation you have found yourselves. And I am assuring you that, the management staffers will ensure that your letter of grievances is treated and forwarded to the relevant authorities”.
