The member representing Warri South West Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has appealed to Ijaw and Itsekiri in local government area to embrace peace and live harmoniously in the face of their aged long relationship, togetherness and shared environmental challenges.
Guwor stated this on Monday, in reaction to reports of threats of possible violence, which he said are inimical to peaceful and conducive environment for business and development.
He noted that the Stronger Delta agenda of the state government could only be actualized under a peaceful atmosphere.
The lawmaker remarked that peaceful coexistence was not the absence of conflict but the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means, and called on the leaders and youths of the two ethnic groups to be willing to share and accommodate one another.
He urged them to create the enabling environment that would be conducive for business to thrive, explaining that both ethnic groups shared the same environmental degradation and impart of oil and gas exploration, as well as neglects.
Honourable Guwo appealed to the groups to embrace dialogue and brotherliness rather than venting bitterness and violence against one another, warning that violence and threat had never produced any meaningful result but destruction.
