A community leader, Madaki of Sabon-Gari, one of indigenous FCT communities, in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Territory, Abubakar Madaki, has raised serious concerns over alleged frequent invasion of their farmlands by the FCT Administration, without adequate compensations.
Madaki, who spoke to Peoples Daily in his residence in Gwagwalada, lamented that farmers in the community and FCT at large had lost almost all their farmlands to the government.
He appealed to the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello to always consider the interest of the original inhabitants, while allocating their farmlands to others.
According to him, such actions are threatening their means of survival as they depend largely on agriculture.
He also appealed to the Minister to ensure timely provision of fertilizers and others farming inputs to the farmers every year, so as to enable them feel the impact of the government.
He noted that many farmers did not get fertilizers in this year’s farming season.
Furthermore, the Madaki also called on the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Adamu Mustapha Danze to carry the farmers along in the scheme of things.
