The Aguma of Gwagwalada Area Council (Second class chief) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji, has appointed Igwe Eric Onah Obataobie, as the new Eze Igbo II of Gwagwalada area council in the area.
Speaking with newsmen during the coronation ceremony of the Eze Igbo II at the weekend in Gwagwalada, the President General of Igbo Community Assembly in the FCT, Hon, Fabian Nwokedi, called for co-operation as well as unity among the Igbos in anywhere they live.
Nwokedi urged the Eze Igbo II to deem it necessary to give priority attention to the welfare of the less privileged Igbos whenever the need arises.
He further called on the new monarch to use his position to unite some aggrieved Igbos, so as to pave way for the entire Igbo community to move to the next level.
While speaking on the 2015 general elections, he advised the Igbos to shun politics of bitterness, pleading with them to vote the candidates of their choice.
The FCT Igbo President General, however, noted that the relationship of Ndi-Igbos with other tribal chiefs is cordial in the area and FCT at large.
On his part, the new Eze Igbo II of Gwagwalada, prayed to Almighty God to give him the wisdom and power to lead his people to the Promised Land.
He appealed to Igbos to speak with one voice so as to move the Igbo Community Assembly forward in the area, saying that he will carry every Igbo along.
The Eze Igbo II therefore, said that his leadership would not hesitate to play the fatherly role to unite those Igbo who are problematic to Igbo Community.
Similarly, the chairman of Igbo community Assembly in Gwagwalada, Chief Kenneth Kelechi, urged the sons, daughters, youth, as well as elders of Ndi-Igbo and Ndigwe to remain loyal to the FCT Administration and government of the area council, in order to reap the dividends of democracy.
“Unity, peace and progress of Ndi-Igbo shall be the focal point of our peaceful co-existence at the various communities in the FCT,” he said.
Kelechi used the occasion to call on his people to register as well collect their voters’ cards, to enable them to perform their civic rights in the forthcoming 2015 general elections.
Also, he urged some Ndi-Igbo, who are yet to register in the ongoing process for the new National Identical Card to do so.
