Residents of the Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have strongly criticized the political appointees of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Jibrin Giri, labeling his administration a “cabinet of shame” over an alleged widespread failure to deliver on their responsibilities.
In separate interviews with Peoples Daily, several residents and political stakeholders accused the Chairman’s aides of being politically naive, selfish, and disconnected from the needs of the masses and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A resident of Gwagwalada, Mr. Sani Aliyu, alleged that instead of utilizing the council’s monthly allocations to support the less privileged and develop the community, the appointees have used public funds to enrich themselves.
Aliyu specifically criticized the Supervisory Councilor for Environment, Mr. Bash Maikasuwa, accusing him of displaying a pompous and dismissive attitude toward constituents seeking financial assistance.
The criticism extended to the council’s administrative handling of public access and youth development.
Another resident, Mr. Danladi Musa, accused the Chairman’s Protocol Officer I, Mr. Usman Tanko, of practicing tribalism and favoritism when managing the schedule for citizens seeking an audience with the Executive Chairman.
For an APC member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, lambasted the Senior Special Assistant on Youth, Mr. Shuaibu Tugan-maje, for completely failing to organize any youth empowerment programs throughout the current administration.
The source further asserted that many of the current aides lack the necessary qualifications for their political offices.
Adding his voice to the complaints, Mallam Illiya Ningi, a retired civil servant residing in the area, stated that the political aides have failed to complement the Chairman’s human development goals due to their selfish interests.
Amidst the sweeping criticisms, some residents found a reason to praise the administration’s protocol structure.
The anonymous APC source commended the Protocol Officer II, Mallam Zakari Umar Kagarko, highlighting his professionalism, empathy, and the consistent courtesy he extends to visitors trying to see the Chairman during official hours.
As frustration grows among the electorate, residents are calling on the Executive Chairman to review the performance of his cabinet to ensure purposeful governance for the people of Gwagwalada.
