The Chairman of Gwale Local Government area of Kano state, Khalid Ishaq Diso has said that investigation has commenced to unravel the mystery behind the burning of the Secretariat of the council.
PEOPLES DAILY gathered that the Secretariat was gutted by a midnight fire, razing down offices and equipment on Wednesday.
The fire outbreak coincided with the resumption of the Chairman to office after he was suspended for three months by the state House of Assembly.
The three-month suspension period elapsed on Wednesday and even before that, Diso obtained a court order that reinstated him to office.
Speaking to newsmen in Kano, the Council Chairman, said that after his reinstatement by the court, he sought Police protection to entere the Secretariat, alleging that “although later we understand that some people stormed the place trying to cause chaos”.
The Chairman, hinted that he was not aware that his reinstatement has anything to do with the burning down of about 17 offices and some vehicles worth millions of Naira.
He however assured that in collaboration with the security agencies, investigation had commenced to uproot the cause of the fire incident.
Meanwhile, the state’s Police Command had confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
He said the Command received a report of the fire outbreak at 5:00 to 6:30 am that touched three offices and part of the secretariat which include; Community Development, Works and Audit Departments.
Kiyawa said though the cause of the fire outbreak is under investigation, the Command had provided adequate security for the Chairman and the secretariat.
“In order to deter potential criminal around the Area from taking advantage, the Police Command this morning provided adequate security for the Chairman and the Local Government Council Headquarters without hitch.
“ In addition, there were presence of other security officials including DSS and NSCDC since early morning. At this moment, the Area is calm while joint security operatives are currently providing the desired security
