From Ahmad Mohammed, Bauchi

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, Dr. Mohammed Alkakli has explained that hospitals have mechanism to address less privileged people who don’t have money to access medical services in the society.
Dr. Alkali described the mechanism as an investment which everybody should be interested in which the teaching hospital has been championing irrespective of all the challenges associated to it.
The CMD stated this when he received members of a Bauchi based non-governmental organization, ‘Hope for the Living Steve Joy Foundation’ (Hope-L) in his office said that the hospital has over the years developed a Coffers’ Fund Intervention which people and corporate bodies showed interest.
Dr Alkali said the Union Bank every quarter contributes N3 million to the intervention fund for patients that cannot afford the hospital fees or services, but was dismay that such support to the fund has for sometimes now not forth coming.
Dr. Alkali observed that it is difficult for the system to cope with the challenges, and therefore advised the Hope-L foundation to create awareness for those that need to come to the aid of people that cannot be able to help themselves.
