The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu has made a case for the installation of more modern facilities at the newly completed National Hospital’s Trauma Centre to compete with foreign ones.

Prof. Chukwu who made the suggestion yesterday in Abuja when he visited the National Hospital for the pre-commissioning of the new Trauma Centre said, it is only by putting in place modern facilities in such a new structure, that the Centre will last long and meet the international standard.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of the facilities put in place to ensure that all patients receive the needed treatment in Nigeria without traveling abroad, saying the hospital management has done well.

He also urged the management to take in patients from all over the country noting that, “ once people get to know about this development, they will begin to troop to the Centre from everywhere for quality treatment”.

While going round the hospital, the minister also visited the victims of Nigerian Immigration recruitment exercise stampede, where he sympathized with them and prayed for their quick recovery.

Prof. Chukwu disclosed that the management of the hospital had informed him that the Immigration Service has taken the responsibilities for the treatment of the victims.

Responding on the new trauma Centre, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Bello Bala Shehu said, the hospital management will do everything possible to ensure that all the lapses are corrected, and promised to ensure that the Centre with 80 bed capacity meet the international standard.
